About the role

About MGT Insurance

MGT is the first AI-driven, neo-insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for the brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state-of-the-art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock-star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles.

MGT Insurance is seeking a Head of Actuarial to own both pricing and reserving for our AI-native commercial P&C carrier. Reporting to the Head of Insurance, this is MGT's senior-most actuarial seat and you will set actuarial strategy and be the hands-on practitioner building the models, rate filings, and reserve estimates that MGT's underwriting, finance, and executive teams rely on.

This is a dual-mandate role spanning both sides of the actuarial function: pricing (rate adequacy, rating plan design, filed rate changes) and reserving (loss reserve estimates, IBNR, reserve adequacy testing). You will also serve as the actuarial voice into MGT's AI actuarial agent, ensuring pricing logic and risk selection signals are actuarially sound as they get embedded into an automated underwriting environment.

What You'll Do

  • Own MGT's pricing function including rate indications, rating plan design, rate filings, classification and territory relativities, and schedule rating logic across MGT's lines of business
  • Own MGT's reserving function — quarterly reserve estimates, IBNR analysis, loss development studies, and reserve adequacy testing
  • Serve as the actuarial sign-off for rate filings submitted to state insurance departments; partner with Legal and Compliance on regulatory rate justification
  • Partner with Underwriting on rate adequacy by class, segment, and geography — flagging pricing inadequacy or opportunity as the book develops
  • Serve as the actuarial SME for Athena, MGT's AI underwriting agent — validating that pricing logic, appetite signals, and risk scoring embedded into the platform are actuarially sound
  • Own loss trend analysis and translate findings into pricing and underwriting guideline recommendations
  • Partner with Finance on reserve-related financial reporting, statutory filings, and audit support
  • Contribute actuarial perspective to reinsurance treaty structuring, submissions, and loss pick discussions
  • Present pricing and reserving results to the Co-CEOs, board, and external stakeholders including reinsurers and auditors
  • Build actuarial infrastructure; data pipelines, modeling standards, and documentation that scales as MGT's book grows
  • Evaluate and incorporate new data sources and modeling techniques (including AI/ML-driven pricing approaches) into MGT's actuarial practice

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in commercial P&C insurance, with direct experience in both pricing and reserving
  • Demonstrated experience owning rate filings and reserve estimates independently — not just supporting them
  • Strong technical foundation: GLMs, loss development triangles, rate indication methodology, and reserve adequacy testing
  • Experience working with state insurance department rate filing requirements and processes
  • Ability to translate complex actuarial analysis into clear recommendations for underwriting, product, and executive stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating as a build-from-scratch or small-team actuarial function — hands-on with the work, not just directing others

Preferred Qualifications

  • FCAS or ACAS designation strongly preferred; candidates with substantial equivalent experience and progress toward fellowship will be considered
  • Experience in small commercial or BOP lines specifically
  • Experience integrating actuarial models into real-time underwriting or quoting systems — API-driven or AI agent environments
  • Experience with reinsurance treaty structuring and loss pick development
  • Proficiency in R, Python, or similar tools for actuarial modeling and analysis

Location

Hybrid minimum 3 days a week onsite based in Denver, CO, Madison, WI, or San Francisco, CA

Frequently asked questions

Answers about finding your next role

What can I search for?

Search by job title or keyword, then browse remote, hybrid, and onsite openings in one list.

Where can I find remote jobs?

Browse remote openings on Remote Amigo. Search by job title or keyword, then choose Remote in the work format filter. Check each listing for location or country requirements.

How do I narrow the results?

Choose a country, work format, minimum annual salary, and experience level. You can change or clear the filters at any time.

What will I see on a job page?

Each listing shows the role, company, location, work format, salary when available, skills when provided, and a job description.

Do I need an account to browse jobs?

No. You can search and read the available listings without signing in.

Does this site submit job applications for me?

No. You can search and review listings here. The Apply button starts the job preference quiz; it does not submit an application to an employer.

Where do the jobs come from?

Listings are imported from public job feeds and job sites. Job details may change at the original source, so confirm the latest information before applying.

How recent are the listings?

Search results include listings with a publication date in the last 30 days. If a source provides no publication date, the import date is used; the actual posting may be older.

Can I search for remote jobs only?

Yes. Select Remote in the job type filter to show remote listings. You can switch to Hybrid or Onsite whenever you want.

What is the difference between remote, hybrid, and onsite?

Remote roles are intended to be done away from an office. Hybrid roles combine remote and office work. Onsite roles are based at a workplace. Always read the listing for its exact location requirements.

Can I filter jobs by country?

Yes. Choose a country in the search form to narrow the listings. A remote role may still have country restrictions, so check its description before applying.

Why do some jobs have no salary listed?

Some listings do not include pay information. We show a salary when it is available and leave it out when it is not provided.

Is the salary filter a monthly or annual amount?

The minimum salary field uses US dollars per year. It filters listings that have comparable salary information.

Can I change or clear my search filters?

Yes. Change the keyword, country, job type, salary, or level in the search form. You can clear individual fields and run a broader search again.
